WEST COAST CHAOS: Oregon Student SUSPENDED for Pro-Trump Shirt
An 18-year-old Oregon high school student is suing his school district after he was abruptly suspended earlier this year, saying they violated his First Amendment rights when they demanded he cover up or remove a pro-Trump shirt.
The student, identified as Addison Barnes, said school officials asked him to remove his “Donald J. Trump Construction Company” shirt, including the President’s quote “The wall just got 10 feet taller.”
“The school official who pulled Barnes out of class to ask him to cover the shirt also told him at least one student and one teacher had been offended by the shirt, The Associated Press reported,” writes the Sacramento Bee.
“I decided, you know this isn’t right,” said the student. “I have my First Amendment, and it’s not right what they’re doing.”
Barnes filed a lawsuit against the district this week, claiming the school violated his “free speech rights” when they demanded he remove the apparel.
