Three People Died When Unlicensed Driver,16, Skids Off Icy Road, Hits Tree

A 2007 Toyota Corolla is totalled after the driver lost control and slammed into a tree

Three people were killed in Maine after an unlicensed 16-year-old driver lost control of his car and crashed into a tree. There were five people in the vehicle when the driver, who has not been identified, skidded on the icy road and slammed into a tree in the town of Clinton. The 2007 Toyota Corolla was obliterated in the crash, and when first responders arrived, the three victims were pronounced dead inside the vehicle.

"They had their whole life ahead of them," Dan Bickford, who lives near the site of the accident, told the Portland Press Herald. "There was nothing left of that car."

The victims were identified as Thomas Porfirio, 15, Emily Baker, 14, and her 12-year-old sister Ashland. 14-year-old Nevaeh Wilson was injured, as was the driver. They were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities are investigating the tragic accident and believe it was the result of the driver's inexperience and the fact that he was traveling too fast for the road conditions. They did not say whether the driver will face any charges.
