President Donald Trump claimed that Republicans "broke" Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer amid the ongoing government shutdown that's expected to end in the coming days during an interview with FOX News' Laura Ingraham that aired Monday (November 10) night.

“I think he made a mistake in going too far,” Trump said. “He thought he could break the Republicans, and the Republicans broke him.”

Trump's comments came shortly before the Senate approved an agreement reached by a group of Democrat and Republican senators that could result in the end of the government shutdown Monday night. Schumer was among 39 Democrats to vote against the spending bill, which funds the government through January 30, 2026, while providing money for SNAP benefits, veteran programs and congressional operations through September 30, 2026.

The bill is expected to be approved by the Republican-majority House of Representatives on Wednesday (November 12) before being sent to Trump to be signed into law, effectively ending the longest-ever government shutdown at 43 days. A growing number of Democrats have called for Schumer to step aside as the party's leader as it faces internal conflict amid the shutdown.

“I’ve never seen a politician change so much,” Trump said, claiming Schumner “was a pretty talented guy” who had “lost his talent.”

“I feel badly, because I know Chuck Schumer,” the president added. “I’ve known him since he was a person who loved Israel, and now he's a Palestinian. He’s become a Palestinian.”

Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), John Fetterman (D-Pa.), Angus King (I-Maine) and Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) were the Democrats to vote alongside 52 Republicans in favor of the agreement reached Sunday (November 9) night.
